| Q
- What software do you use for your digital paintings?
A - I use Photoshop 7 and a Wacom tablet. |
| Q
- Did you go to school/college to learn about art/painting/drawing?
A - I did do a course in Graphic Design at college, but not much of it was geared towards illustration. I'm mostly self taught. |
| Q
- Do you do a sketch in pencil and scan it before doing a digital painting?
A - Typically yes. The sketch can vary in size and detail, it depends on the subject. |
|
Q - Do you use Oils or Acrylics for your traditional paintings? A - I use both. I do some B+W work in Acrylics, and I tend to do an Acrylic underpainting before starting in on an Oil painting. |
|
Q - What materials do you use for your pencil work? A - I use a range of pencils from 2H to 2B. I do finished illo's on Smooth Surface Bristol Board, and I use a Kneedable Eraser and an electronic eraser for highlights. I often end up drawing with the erasers a lot. |
|
Q - What books on Anatomy do you recommend? A - I often use 'The Human Figure' by David K Rubins. I also use Bodybuilding/Fitness magazines and anything else I can find on the Internet. |
|
Q - How do I become a professional Fantasy artist? A - Look at what is already published and build a portfolio that you believe is strong enough for a publisher to consider. If you are unsure about the quality of your work, seek advice and critique from the many professional artists that frequently visit message boards like conceptart.org. and eatpoo.com |
|
Q - Can you give me any tips on drawing/painting? A - In short, there's no substitute for practice and study. Draw and paint as often as you can and study the artists that you admire the most and learn from them. |
|
Q - Can I send you some of my work to critique? A - When time permits I'm happy to do this. I prefer to be sent a link to work that is already posted somewhere and I'm unlikely to open an attachment from someone I don't know. |
